Veteran television icon Bushra Ansari is one of Pakistan’s most celebrated entertainers, admired for her work as an actress, host, comedian, writer, and singer. Over the years, she has delivered memorable performances in dramas such as Aangan Terha, Badlon Par Basera, Bilqees Kaur, Udaari, Barat Series, Pardes, Tere Bin, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, and Very Filmy. She is currently winning praise for her role in Geo TV’s hit drama Shaidai.
Recently, Bushra Ansari appeared on Good Morning Pakistan, where she candidly spoke about the parenting choices she and her husband made while raising their daughters. Reflecting on those decisions, she admitted that their liberal approach toward marriage eventually led to what she considers one of the biggest mistakes of her life.
Sharing her experience, Bushra said that her daughter’s marriage remains one of the most painful chapters of her life. She explained that, unlike her own strict upbringing—where girls were discouraged from interacting with boys or studying in co-educational institutions—she wanted her daughters to feel comfortable being honest with their parents.
Bushra recalled convincing her husband to allow their daughters to maintain healthy friendships with male classmates instead of forcing them to hide such relationships. Rather than encouraging secrecy, she preferred openness and even welcomed her daughters’ friends into their home. According to her, the family tried to strike a balance between traditional values and a more progressive outlook.
She further revealed that, coming from a middle-class family, they always prioritized good character over wealth while considering marriage proposals. They believed a successful marriage was built on mutual respect and shared effort rather than financial status.
However, Bushra admitted they overlooked several warning signs while choosing a match for their daughter. She said she judged the prospective groom by his polite manner and seemingly respectable family background instead of asking practical questions about his financial stability. Looking back, she realized that his reluctance to discuss finances was a major red flag, but the family ignored it out of fear that the proposal might fall through.
